Touro University Awards Shlomo Rechnitz Honorary Doctorate for Contributions to Healthcare and Philanthropy

Recognition honors Rechnitz's longstanding commitment to healthcare, charitable giving, education, and community leadership

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 15, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Touro University has awarded Shlomo Rechnitz, Co-Owner and Managing Director of Los Angeles Nursing Homes, an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters in recognition of his contributions to healthcare, philanthropy, and public service.

An entrepreneur, healthcare executive, and philanthropist, Rechnitz has spent decades building businesses and supporting charitable initiatives focused on healthcare, education, poverty relief, emergency assistance, and community development. His philanthropic efforts have supported hospitals, schools, nonprofit organizations, veterans, families in need, and community institutions.

The honorary degree was conferred at Touro University's 52nd annual commencement, where Rechnitz also delivered the commencement address to graduates. In his remarks, he encouraged graduates to approach their futures with resilience, ambition, and character, emphasizing the importance of using their talents to make a positive difference in the lives of others.

“In quiet ways, he has reshaped the standards of generosity for an entire community, inspiring others simply by the way he lives,” said Rabbi Moshe Krupka, executive vice president of Touro University, about Rechnitz.

In accepting the honor, Rechnitz encouraged graduates to pursue meaningful lives while remaining committed to their values and to helping others.

"Your response to darkness cannot simply be outrage. It must be excellence," Rechnitz told the graduates.

The recognition adds to a history of honors recognizing Rechnitz's contributions as an entrepreneur, philanthropist, and community leader. Through the Shlomo & Tamar Rechnitz Foundation and other charitable initiatives, he has supported organizations and causes across the United States and internationally.

“Receiving this honor is deeply meaningful to me,” said Rechnitz. “The greatest measure of success is not what we build for ourselves, but what we can do for other people. I am grateful to Touro University for this recognition and for its commitment to educating the next generation of leaders.”
